Measures the concentration of metal ions such as calcium (CA⁺) and magnesium (MG⁺) in the water of your tank, which determine the total hardness of water, a fundamental factor for fish health and system balance.
⚙️ Understand the hardness of water:
Total hardness is the sum of dissolved metal ions, especially CA⁺ and MG⁺.
Usually these ions are linked to carbonates and bicarbonates, but they can also bind to sulfates, nitrates, chlorides and silicates.
Hardness is expressed in MG/L (PPM) of Caco₃ or in German degree (° DH).
Each species of fish requires specific levels of hardness to prosper.
🧾 Mode of use:
Vest 5 ml of tank water with the beaker.
Drong 2 drops of Reagent 1 solution, cover and shake.
Add a measure of reagent 2, cover and shake. The water will be red.
Drink drops the gout the reagent 3, shaking after each drop, until the color turns to blue. Count the number of drops used.
See the result according to the number of drops:
German grade drops (° DH) Classification
1 3 very mild water
1 to 3 3 to 8 mild water
3 to 6 8 to 17 semi-hard water
6 to 9 17 to 25 hard water
> 9 over 25 very hard water
